Adult Day Center FAQs

Yes. To schedule a visit and learn more about the benefits of adult day services, call 908-766-2310. We are open Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm, and conveniently located at 200 Mt. Airy Road near I-287 and I-78 in Basking Ridge, NJ.

Give us a call and we will arrange your initial visit. At this meeting, we acquire health and background information that helps determine if the prospective member would benefit from our program. As part of the enrollment process, we have the prospective member join in the morning activity while we talk with their caregiver. This is a free service and without any obligations.

Although we are open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, we encourage members to be present at least from 10:00am to 3:00pm. This is when our formal programming takes place.

If your loved one exhibits any of the following, there might be concern for their isolation and/or safety at home, and could benefit from our supervised, group setting:

  • Not eating well or forgetting to eat
  • Doesn’t socialize any longer
  • Sleeps most of the day, minimal movement
  • Showing signs of short-term memory loss and confusion

Yes. We will provide medication reminders to the member during the program. Members can bring medications for the day. The medication must be in a non-expired container from the pharmacy exactly marked with the medication inside.

Financial assistance may be available through the County Respite Program and the New Jersey Adult Day Services Program for Persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Dementia

The Adult Day Center does not offer transportation, but if you live in the Basking Ridge area, there are several reliable options:

  • St. James Church Volunteer Transportation Services: Local, volunteer-based transportation support coordinated through the church community.
  • GoGo Grandparent: A senior-friendly service that connects riders to Lyft/Uber without needing a smartphone.
    • Phone: 1-855-464-6872
    • Cost: $0.27 per minute plus a $1 operator fee per ride
  • Lyft and Uber: Standard rideshare services available throughout the area.
  • EZ Ryde4Life (EZ Ride for Seniors): A New Jersey program coordinating rides with Lyft/Uber for seniors.
    • Phone: 201-939-4242 (Option 4)
    • Cost: Standard Lyft/Uber rates plus a $2.50 administrative fee per ride.
    • Discounted rides available: $5 per ride (for trips under $35) for eligible NJ DHS program members (PAAD, Senior Gold, Medicaid), with up to 16 discounted rides per month

Scheduling attendance days at the Adult Day Center is designed to be stress-free. Once admitted, your loved one will have a set schedule. If, for any reason, they are unable to attend on a scheduled day, you can easily cancel or switch the day with just a phone call, email, or text message. Please note: if no notification is provided, a $25 cancellation fee will be applied for that day.

Resistance is normal. The most effective strategies involve empathy, reassurance, and gradual exposure, such as touring the center together, starting with short visits, and highlighting enjoyable aspects like social activities or meals.

  • Acknowledge their feelings: “I understand you feel you don’t need this right now, and I respect your independence.” Validating their perspective reduces defensiveness.
  • Reframe the purpose: “This isn’t about you needing help, it’s about giving you more opportunities to do things you enjoy and spend time with others.”
  • Stress positive aspects: “You’ll have a chance to meet new people, enjoy music and activities, and share your wisdom with others.”
  • Suggest a trial visit: “Let’s just try one day. If you don’t like it, we’ll talk about it and adjust.”
  • Position it as a partnership: “We’ll make this decision together. I want you to feel comfortable and happy with whatever we choose.”
