Pediatric emergency care
Atlantic Health offers pediatric emergency care with 24/7 access to specially trained teams across our medical centers, including dedicated pediatric emergency departments and child life support.
Atlantic Health Children’s Health provides 24-hour access to pediatric emergency care at all of our medical centers. We treat more than 33,500 children each year for everything from minor emergencies, such as fever, ear infections, minor cuts and sprains, to life-threatening injuries and illnesses.
We have dedicated pediatric emergency departments at Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown, Overlook Medical Center, and Chilton Medical Center. All children are seen by certified emergency pediatricians and nurses extensively trained in pediatric care and certified in pediatric advanced life support.
Our staff takes a patient- and family-centered care approach to medical emergencies, which means fostering an open line of communication with patients and their families and including them as partners in the care process. We also collaborate with primary care physicians, ensuring that they are kept up-to-date on all diagnostic procedures and treatments we provide to their patients.
What’s more, our department believes that an environment that focuses solely on the needs of children relieves some of the anxiety of an emergency visit for both the parent and the child. Our exam rooms are colorfully decorated and equipped with TVs and DVD players, and our staff is trained to help ease the fears of our patients and make them feel more comfortable. Child life specialists at Overlook and Morristown medical centers provide specialized educational and therapeutic interventions, among other services.
