CVT school application process

All applicants who meet the admissions criteria, including the technical standards, and who demonstrate the ability and enthusiasm to successfully complete the program are considered for admission to the School of Cardiovascular Technology. All applicants are considered on an individual basis, regardless of race, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, marital status, sex or handicap.

Application procedure

To be eligible, every applicant must:

Be 18 years old the year the program starts, by September 1st for the day program
Possess a high school diploma or general educational development (GED)
Have completed the following pre-requisite college courses: Anatomy & Physiology I and II, College Algebra (or Physics) and English Composition I, each with a minimum of 3.0 GPA. (Based on a 4.0 scale).
Complete pre-requisite courses by August 15, prior to the start of the program
Participate in a formal interview process

To apply for admission, applicants must send the following items to the School of Cardiovascular Technology by April 30.

Completed application form with a $50 application fee payable to the School of Cardiovascular Technology
A copy of high school transcripts or GED
Official transcripts from any post-high school education or educational evaluation company
Three letters of recommendation – one from a professional (teacher or employer) and two from other personal contacts (excluding family members)

Every applicant must check with the School of Cardiovascular Technology's administrative office to make sure that we have received all application materials and that all information on the application is correct and current.

Interview process

The program director and an instructor conduct in-person interviews in May. During the interview process, each applicant must complete the 12-minute Wonderlic Scholastic Level test and compose two brief essays. Our admissions committee meets to determine which candidates to accept into the program, and students are notified of their admission status by mail shortly thereafter.

No person acting within the scope of his/her responsibility or authority at Morristown Medical Center’s School of Cardiovascular Technology shall discriminate on the basis of an applicant's disabilities. Listed below are the essential job-related functions of a cardiovascular technologist:

The cardiovascular technologist must have sufficient strength, motor coordination and manual dexterity to:

Transport, move, lift and transfer patients from a wheelchair or stretcher to a patient bed or radiographic table
Move, adjust and manipulate a variety of equipment, including physical transportation or portable equipment, to arrange and align the equipment with respect to the patient, according to established procedure and standards of speed and accuracy

The cardiovascular technologist must be able to:

Handle stressful situations related to technical and procedural standards and patient care situations
Provide physical and emotional support to the patient during cardiovascular diagnostic procedures; be able to respond to situations requiring first aid and provide emergency care to the patient in the absence of the physician, or until the physician arrives.
Communicate in an effective manner to direct patients during a diagnostic examination

The cardiovascular technologist must have the mental, intellectual and sensory capacity to:

Record and calculate required hemodynamic information and data to contribute to the diagnosis of a patient, following the procedure's standards of speed and accuracy.
Review and evaluate the recorded images and waveforms for the purpose of identifying proper positioning, accurate procedural sequencing and other appropriate and pertinent technical qualities.
