MORRISTOWN, NJ – MAY 13, 2026 – Three Atlantic Health medical centers received a top five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the 2026 CMS Overall Hospital Star Quality Rating system, with all six medical centers earning four stars or higher.
Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center maintained a five-star rating from CMS, while Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center and Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center each improved to five stars from four. Only 12 percent of hospitals evaluated nationwide, and seven hospitals in New Jersey, achieved five-star status in 2026.
Additionally, three Atlantic Health hospitals achieved a four-star rating. Atlantic Health Hackettstown Medical Center and Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center each improved from a three-star rating, and Atlantic Health CentraState Medical Center advanced from a two-star rating in 2025.
“These ratings reflect the extraordinary dedication of physicians, nurses and team members across Atlantic Health,” said Saad Ehtisham, DHA, FACHE, president and CEO of Atlantic Health. “The quality, safety and compassion they provide for communities across New Jersey makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients every day.”
The overall CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating system summarizes a variety of quality measures reflecting common conditions that many hospitals treat. Key quality measures include mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timeliness and effectiveness of care. The star rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to hospitals across the country.
