Vikas Sharad Bhatt, MD

Dr. Bhatt is a fellowship-trained, minimally invasive robotic surgeon and endourologist who specializes in the management of patients with a variety of urologic diseases. He is board-eligible in urology by the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urological Association.

He has specialty interest in the treatment of urologic cancers, including cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidneys via minimally invasive surgery and the most up-to-date research. Dr Bhatt offers surgery to remove kidney tumors while preserving the healthy kidney, performs robotic prostatectomies with a focus on preserving sexual function and urinary continence, and offers cystectomies in patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer. He regularly collaborates with medical and radiation oncologists to provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care, making sure to guide patients through complex medical decision-making.

As an endourologist, he also has extensive expertise in the management of patients with complex and recurrent kidney stones. Dr. Bhatt uses a multi-faceted approach that emphasizes both prevention via focused dietary recommendations and medications, as well as performing a variety of surgical interventions to treat existing stones. He offers both advanced laser lithotripsy and “tube-less” percutaneous removal of large kidney stones. Dr. Bhatt is also one of a few urologists in the area who was trained to perform enucleations of the prostate for those who suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia. 

Dr. Bhatt has published numerous peer-reviewed articles related to urologic cancers, kidney stones and health services research in various academic journals, and has presented research at regional and national urologic conferences. He received his medical degree at Drexel University, completed a five-year residency in urology at Albany Medical Center, and finished a combined two-year minimally invasive robotics and endourology fellowship at Brown University. During that time, he also received his Masters in Public Health, focusing on health services research. He currently practices with Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) and is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization. Prior to joining AMG, Dr. Bhatt served as a urologist in Newport and Providence, RI. He is fluent in English and Gujarati.
