Tamara Leah Lipshie, MD

Tamara L. Lipshie, MD, FASAM, is the medical director of Outpatient Behavioral Health at Newton Medical Center. She is part of Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). Board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Lipshie has more than 35 years of experience in the medical field. She has been actively involved in developing a program that uses medication for the treatment of addiction and expanding access to high-quality addiction care.

After earning her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY, Dr. Lipshie performed a psychiatric residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia Campus)/New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York, NY. She then earned a certificate in psychoanalysis from Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, also in NYC. Dr. Lipshie spent the first 28 years of her career in private practice in Manhattan. Prior to joining AMG, she held faculty positions at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Dr. Lipshie is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Psychoanalytic Association, and the Physicians for Human Rights.
