Michael Thomas Turturro, MD

Dr. Michael Turturro is a board-certified general surgeon and an abdominal wall specialist with Overlook Surgical Associates of Atlantic Medical Group. He is an expert in the treatment of large and complex hernias, hernias that have recurred following a previous repair, robotic minimally invasive hernia repairs, and mesh-related complications. He also has extensive training in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery which allows patients to recover quickly with improved outcomes. He performs surgery on the gallbladder, colon, stomach, appendix, small intestine, as well as skin and soft tissue. Dr. Turturro is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care to all patients and ensuring they are educated about their condition and treatment.

After earning his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, in Omaha, Dr. Turturro completed his general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center. During his residency, he served as administrative chief and received multiple awards for patient care, surgical technique, and resident teaching. He then went on to complete additional training in robotic and advanced abdominal wall surgery from New York Presbyterian at Columbia University, the first hospital in the country to have its own division of abdominal wall surgery. While there, he trained under, and worked with, the leaders in the field of hernia surgery. This has given Dr. Turturro the knowledge and ability to perform complex hernia repairs that may not be offered at other institutions.

Dr. Turturro has lectured and presented research at national meetings, and published textbook chapters related to hernia surgery. He performed research throughout his undergraduate and medical studies in the fields of basic biology, orthopedics, trauma and vascular surgery.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Hernia Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), International Hernia Collaboration, and Robotic Surgery Collaboration. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
