Maithili V Rao, MD

Maithili Rao, MD, is a senior health care entrepreneur board-certified in medical oncology and hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is affiliated with Advanced Care Oncology and Hematology Associates (ACOHA), part of Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). Her professional career includes building a worldclass oncology practice across six counties with 30 practitioners, serving as a medical executive board member at Overlook Hospital, and working as the enterprise medical director of Practice Growth and Integration at Atlantic Medical Group. Dr. Rao has championed an integrated approach to treating cancer and blood disorders, focusing on personalizing patient care, quality, and communication.

At each oncology treatment site, Dr. Rao has successfully incorporated palliative care, genetic counseling, dietitians, navigators, social workers, onsite lab and pharmacy services, access to clinical trials, an infusion suite for chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and advanced molecular testing. These integrations enable her to deliver high-quality clinical care and innovative treatment protocols with a unique, holistic, patient-centered approach. She treats all forms of blood disease and cancer, with a special focus on breast cancer.

Dr. Rao currently serves as the enterprise medical director of oncology and other specialties for Atlantic Health System (AHS), a multi-award-winning, seven-hospital, nonprofit, integrated health care network in northern New Jersey. AHS has over 400 sites of care, 300 physician practices, and 17,000 team members. Dr. Rao provides clinical and strategic direction for cancer care and has successfully transformed cancer care in New Jersey from a community-focused initiative to a leading oncology center that rivals prestigious competitors in New York City.

Dr. Rao has been recognized by the American Cancer Society as a Medical Honoree and has been voted by her peers as New Jersey Monthly’s Top Doctor for over 13 years, among other accolades. Dr. Rao is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology, and is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
