George Umeadi Mbolu, Jr, MD

George Mbolu Jr., MD, is a fellowship-trained pulmonologist and critical care specialist with Atlantic Medical Group. Board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and pulmonary disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has clinical expertise in treating patients with a variety of pulmonary conditions, evaluating and managing respiratory disease and caring for critically ill adult patients. Dr. Mbolu provides compassionate care to patients with respiratory distress, asthma, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and chronic bronchitis, among other conditions.

After earning his medical degree at Windsor University School of Medicine, Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean, Dr. Mbolu performed his internal medicine residency at Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center, Montclair, NJ, where he served as chief resident, in charge of training their team of residents and recruiting new doctors to the program. He followed that with a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, where he served as chief fellow.

Heavily involved in volunteer activities, Dr. Mbolu has participated in international medical missions for several years, traveling with Human Touch Health Initiative, providing medical care and community services to third world countries and disaster areas, including a 10-day medical mission to Abba, a village in Eastern Nigeria, providing health screenings and education on infant and maternal care, safe sex, and disease prevention.

Dr. Mbolu has presented many times at national conferences and annual meetings on several topics, including the importance of screening hospitalized patients for obstructive sleep apnea, related to his research at Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center during his residency.

Dr. Mbolu is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, Alliance of Academic Internal Medicine, and the American College of Chest Physicians. In addition to English, Dr. Mbolu is fluent in Igbo. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
