Eric Perez, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center. Dr. Perez supervises numerous hospital and systemwide initiatives. He also helps to advance physician engagement, patient safety, quality, integration and alignment at Atlantic Health Chilton and within Atlantic Health. Dr. Perez has continuously worked on establishing strong relationships with medical staff members, clinical teams and physician leadership colleagues across Atlantic Health to facilitate and support knowledge transfer, standardization of best practice and coordination of care.
Under his leadership, Atlantic Health Chilton has maintained achievements including several patient safety and quality awards from The Leapfrog Group, Healthgrades, and U.S. News & World Report. Dr. Perez also transitioned three service lines to the hospital-employed groups and was instrumental in leading the hospital’s command center during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other emergency responses. He is the lead for Atlantic Health medical staff offices, and is working on restructuring physician privileging and professional practice evaluations.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Perez held the position of Medical Director, Emergency Services, at Atlantic Health Chilton, which he was appointed to in September 2016. He held the position of Vice Chairman, Associate Medical Director at Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center from October 2014 through August 2016. Before joining Atlantic Health in 2014, Dr. Perez was an assistant professor at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center working in the emergency department and conducted toxicology research on antidotes for cardiac poisons.
Dr. Perez received his undergraduate degree in molecular biology and biochemistry from Dartmouth College and earned his doctorate in medicine from Chicago Medical School. He completed his internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, NY.
Dr. Perez is fluent in both Spanish and English and spent time in Spain during his early life. He resides in New Jersey with his wife and four children.
