MORRISTOWN, NJ – DECEMBER 2, 2025 – Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center is one of the first hospitals in the U.S. to utilize Hyperfine’s next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) powered, portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. This marks a significant step forward in the clinical adoption of portable brain imaging with diagnostic-level clarity. The hospital’s clinical teams are currently using the portable MRI in its intensive care units and emergency departments.
Hyperfine, a health technology company, has opened a new frontier in brain imaging with the first FDA-cleared AI-powered portable MRI system for the brain and has recently released the next-generation Swoop® system with Optive AI™ software.
“For the first time, we can now bring MRI technology directly to the patient’s bedside,” said Yaron Moshel, MD, PhD, director of neurosurgery, Atlantic Health and chair of neurosurgery, Morristown Medical Center. “This means quicker answers, less risk from moving critically ill patients, and the ability to deliver the safest and most advanced care for patients with brain tumors, strokes, or serious head injuries.”
The next-generation Swoop system features innovations specifically engineered to deliver the highest signal-to-noise ratio, which, when paired with the Optive AI software, achieve exceptional image quality, including improved resolution, uniformity, and faster acquisition times. This new level of image quality can be used across sites of care and multiple clinical applications. The Swoop system delivers a user and patient-centric design that can accommodate a broad patient population. It is especially beneficial for pediatric, elderly or anxious patients, making MRI technology more accessible for all.
“This technology allows us to make faster, safer, and more exact time-sensitive decisions in critical moments, enhancing our ability to manage life-threatening conditions and deliver the highest level of neurosurgical care,” said Kiwon Lee, MD, chairman of neurology at Morristown Medical Center and Atlantic Health medical director, neuro critical care. “This technological advancement positions Morristown Medical Center at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that our patients benefit from cutting-edge diagnostics exactly when and where they are needed most.”
